Meep! The Alexander Wang show always marks a turning point for me. It's when the shows start to become a little bit more serious and the real start of the fashion weeks begin. Which means a lot of blog work for me.
So lets have a gawp at DVF shall we?
First off, I always feel a bit meh when I have to review DVF. I'm not a print fan (although I seem to be mellowing towards it in my old age - see below post!) and I find the thought of reviewing a designer known for her print a bit....meh. I have to say though, when she does simplistic in this collection like the blue halter - I love it. Then she presents, the Cavalli woman. The fussier her woman gets, the more I switch off. There seemed to be two women represented in the collection here. One which loves the simple design and the pure understated maxi dress / block color statement and the one that loves looking like...well someone who shops in Cavalli. It's fussy, overdone and that denim disaster below made me cringe.
There was more of the oversized criss cross pattern / corset lacing in this collection which means this is definately a thing now. One show is an accident or a chance - three? Thats the start of a trend! However I will wait until London before I chalk that one down as a must have. I find it a bit tacky to be honest. Didn't Viktor and Rolf attempt this before and it bombed big time? I seem to recall that show whenever I see this trend and it makes me cringe which is what I'm sure the designers were striving for.
All in all. It was a love / hate show for me. I love the simple pieces that are, quite frankly, timeless and classic DVF however its the other side of the coin which I didn't click with. Too fussy.
That culotte playsuit is just cute. Also loving the splash of cherry red.
I think that might actually be a denim trim on that awful shirt. Not sure, but I think it is.
LOVE that dress as well. It's simple but this is why it works.
