Off to Julian, California for an Apple Pie

Tuesday, February 6, 2018 – Location:  Clark Dry Lake near Borrego Springs, CA

This morning started out sunny and warm like every day in the southwest.  Yuma and I took a walk and when Yuma was done with his walk, he bolted towards the MH.  He’s ready for breakfast!

Wasn’t quite the same weather back home.  Poor Dolly and Fergie had to wade through six inches of new snow that fell last night and this morning.  Looks beautiful, but ask Fergie about being in it.  She hates it!

Late morning after breakfast and enjoying laying outside in the beautiful weather, Yuma and I decided to drive to Julian, California.  It is located at the north end of the Cuyamaca mountain range and the south slope of the Volcan Mountain.

We decided to go right through Borrego Springs and up and over the San Ysidro Mountains on hwy S2 to the small town of Ranchito to get a photo of their Sasquatch.  Then on to hwy 78 through Banner and up the Volcan Mountain to Julian.

The drive up the mountain from the Borrego Springs valley floor was beautiful.

When we hit the top and got into Montezuma Valley where Ranchita is located, the elevation made it cooler and a lot greener.  There are the peaks of the San Ysidro Mountains.

In the Montezuma Valley.  They actually have trees.

After leaving Ranchita, it was on to hwy 78 and up twelve miles to Julian.  Julian is at 4226 feet in elevation compared to Borrego Springs at 597 feet.

I’ve been to Julian three or four times, but never bought one of their famous pies.  This time we stopped at the Julian Pie Company and bought a huge apple pie for dessert for the next week.  Had to watch Yuma on the way home so he wouldn’t eat the pie at one sitting.

Took hwy 78 down the mountain to the Borrego Springs Valley floor and turned left on S3 and went into town and then quickly home.

It was 3:30 and we were tired and hungry.  Time to call it a day.

See you later.
